Connection flow

Patients stay in control from request to revocation

Every connection starts with a partner identity and a patient approval step, then remains scoped to the permission set the patient chose.

  1. Step 1

    Subscribe and verify

Doctors or hospitals subscribe, verify identity, and receive a HealthVault partner ID or invite code.

  2. Step 2

    Invite the patient

Patients add the doctor through search, QR code, or an invite link from the care team.

  3. Step 3

    Mutual approval

The connection activates only after both sides approve the request and the patient selects access scopes.

  4. Step 4

    Revoke instantly

Patients can revoke or let access expire, and the portal loses access immediately.

Granular permissions

Access is specific, time-bound, and revocable

Patients can share the minimum needed for care: a summary for quick review, specific record categories for follow-up, or upload access for new documents.

Permissions are enforced by backend APIs, not just hidden in the portal UI.

  • Basic profile

Identity, age, contact basics, and care context needed to identify the patient.

  • Health summary

A concise clinical summary without opening the entire vault by default.

  • Record categories

Share labs, prescriptions, reports, or other selected categories one by one.

  • Time-bound access

Auto-expire access after a consultation window, such as 30 days post-visit.

  • Medication and symptoms

Grant symptom tracker and medication list access when relevant to treatment.

  • Upload access

Allow the doctor to add new prescriptions or reports as doctor-authored records.

Portal capabilities

Clinical context without overreach

The portal only shows connected patients and only the parts of their HealthVault that they have granted.

Connected patients only

Dashboards show patients who accepted a connection and still have active access.

Permission-filtered detail

The patient page renders only the granted profile, summary, records, symptoms, and medications.

Add-only uploads

Doctors can upload prescriptions and reports tagged with their authorship.

  • Permitted notifications
  • No ownership transfer
